Music Announcement for Fourth and Fifth Grade Students

4th and 5th grade students need to continue to bring their recorders to music class for the remainder of January. Students have been working on the notes B, A, and G on their recorder, and should be able to play at least 3 different songs using those three notes.

Starting on February 1, students will be taking a break from recorder and will not need to bring their recorders to music class. The unit will start again in March--more details to come. If your student still does not have a recorder or has misplaced their previous recorder, please send $5 labeled with your child’s name to the office or have your student bring the money to music class.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding recorder or the purchase of a recorder, you can always email me.

Thank you!

Miss Isabella Crawl

Music Announcement for Second through Fifth Grade Students

In music class, there will be a day for students to share something musical that they have learned outside of music class. On Music Sharing Day, students can perform music that they have learned either at private lessons, a club, or at home. This would be a perfect time for the beginning orchestra and band students to show what they have learned so far. Sharing Day will take place during your child’s normal music class time during the week of Jan. 31. If your child has a song that they would like to perform and is ready to perform, please fill out the Google Form below or send me an email at

Students who would like to play a piece on the piano will be able to use the piano in the music room. Students wishing to play another instrument either need to bring their instrument to school that day or send me a home video that shows your student playing the instrument. If your child is singing a song, the lyrics need to be appropriate for school. Students who do not wish to share on Sharing Day will practice their good audience skills of respectfully watching and listening to their classmates and applauding after each performance.

If you have any questions, the best way to reach me is through email. Sign your student up for Sharing Day online.

Cold Weather

Cool weather is here! As temperatures continue to drop be sure your children are dressed appropriately for the weather. When the temperature is 60° or below, all students are expected to wear a jacket. When the temperature is below 40° students should wear winter coats, hats and gloves. If students wish to play in the snow they must have on boots and snow pants.

Also, please note that students will go outside for recess unless the temperature and/or wind chill is below zero. If you need assistance with any winter gear, please contact the office.

Please make sure you are sending your child with warm clothes if they are riding the bus or walking. It is very cold outside and we have some kids coming to school with no hat, gloves, or even a jacket on.

5Essentials Survey

Districts throughout Illinois are asked to participate in the 5Essential survey to gather information from our faculty, students and parents to gain insight into the key components of all successful schools. These areas include effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction. The results of the survey responses are reported back to the schools for their review and planning for future school improvement focus items within the five areas.

We need your assistance and your feedback. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and can be completed on your smart device. Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions here at the school and guide improvement. Your identity and individual survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. More information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey can be found online.

Vaccination Commonly Asked Questions

I have had several parents reach out about vaccination questions as our students are now eligible to receive the COVID 19 vaccine. I wanted to provide the answer to some commonly asked questions.

  • Is the school running a vaccination clinic?
    • Not at this time. Please reach out to your primary care provider or a local pharmacy.
  • If my student is fully vaccinated will they have to be excluded from school if deemed a close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID 19?
    • No, a fully vaccinated student who is symptom free doesn't have to be excluded if exposed to a positive individual.
  • If my student is fully vaccinated can I turn in their COVID 19 vaccination information?
    • Yes, we will enter this into the students health information like all other vaccinations.

Early Learning Resources

Check out this new early learning resource to support families: a series of short videos aligned with the Kindergarten Individual Development Survey (KIDS) measures, featuring real families sharing ways to support their 3-5 year olds as they develop social-emotional, math and literacy skills. These videos also align to Basics DeKalb County, our local birth-age 3 initiative.

Volunteers and Parent Visitors to the Building

In an effort to maintain the safest learning environment possible for our students and staff we will be limiting the number of visitors and volunteers to the building at this time. As part of this commitment, we will be requiring all visitors who enter the building during the school day to be vaccinated. We will also only be allowing volunteers at school activities who are vaccinated. If you are asked to be a volunteer or a visitor at our building please know that you will have to submit proof of your vaccination status to the office prior to entering the building or volunteering at the event.
